The trick is to try and get to know your team on a personal level. Find out what their likes and dislikes are, what types of goals they have, and also focus on their needs rather than just your own. Try to be fair on your entire team and delegate the work fairly. Lead by example, and make sure that you are putting in just as much effort as your team is, because if you slack off, then so will your team.
It is sometimes difficult to motivate people, and it does take practice, as well as trial and error. With with a bit of practice you should be able to ace the motivation game in time.
